Discovering Sardinia as a Digital Nomad

Updated: Feb 22

The slower pace of life in Sardinia promotes a healthy balance, and a powerful combination of art, history, music, crafts, food and wine. We think it is the perfect destination to switch up the city life and cultivate one’s passions. In this blog post we share why.

History

Sardinia, a beautiful island off the coast of Italy, the second largest island in the Mediterranean Sea and is home to spectacular beaches, boasts a rich and diverse history shaped by various civilizations. All these cultures left a lasting impression on Sardinia and made its culture fascinating. Despite its chaotic past, Sardinia preserves a distinct cultural identity, evident in its unique language, traditions, and archaeological treasures.

The Sardinian Lifestyle

It is true that Sardinia is part of Italy. However, Sardinians and their culture are uniquely different. This is reflected in their food, art, music, history, and architecture. Even the accent of this land is so distinct that it is considered a different language (Sardo) from Italian. Life in Sardinia is simple and modest compared to other countries. This lifestyle, deeply rooted in Sardinia's identity, creates a harmonious balance between modernity and the preservation of age-old customs, making it a captivating and distinctive way of life. The Sardinian lifestyle is characterized by a unique blend of tradition, flexibility, and a strong connection to the island's rich history. Sardinians are known for their emphasis on family bonds, a slow-paced, relaxed approach to work, and having a very healthy work-life balance. They say flexibility is one of the greatest characteristics of the Sardinian people.

Cuisine

Talking about Sardinian culture also means talking about cuisine, wine and typical food. Sardinia's cuisine is a testament to its durability, with many residents living in the past 100 years. Sardinia is heaven for those who appreciate excellent meals. Known for their emphasis on fresh, locally sourced ingredients, Sardinian dishes celebrate the island's agricultural wealth and traditional culinary techniques. The Sardinian menu is famous for fresh, in-season ingredients from the region. Traditional dishes such as Malloreddus, Seadas, and pane Carasau are often served during the carnival season, making food an essential part of the celebration. Sardinian cuisine not only tantalizes the taste buds but also provides a glimpse into the island's history and cultural diversity.

Art and Music in Sardinia

Sardinian music is probably the most culturally distinct of all the Mediterranean regions. From the traditional and ancient anthem, a tenor singing through Launeddas flutes to modern jazz festivals, Sardinia speaks several musical languages and is a fascinating journey through time. Sardinian music reflects the rich culture of the island which is Influenced by Italian, Sardinian, and Catalan traditions, Ballu is also a joyful dance of Sardinian culture that is performed at almost every party, festival, or event. Art and architecture in Sardinia are very important because it represents the meeting point between the Megalithic culture of the west and the urban culture of the eastern Mediterranean. The perfect Megalithic structures of Nuragic art are among the most glorious of the whole bronze age. The Native language architecture deserves a particular mention because it surprises with its originality and variety of forms, making deserve to Sardinia the nickname of "almost continent" not only for the variety of its landscapes but also for the anthropic principle and cultural one. The island's artistic heritage is deeply rooted in its ancient history, evident in the Fascinating prehistory, Nuragic artifacts and archaeological sites which fills the landscape. Sardinian art also draws inspiration from its pastoral surroundings, displaying vibrant images of traditional village life, vivid landscapes, and intricate handicrafts in textiles and ceramics.
