Writing Retreat

A Week of Creativity & Connection

Led by award-winning writer and environmental anthropologist, Gina Rae La Cerva (@ginas_deli), we will tell our stories, make memories, and share precious parts of ourselves and our lives over meals, in a beautiful natural setting.

Find inspiration and embark on a mouth-watering culinary and writing adventure, discovering the unique flavors and traditions of the wild part of Tuscany.

In this week-long retreat, we will practice writing, exploring memoir and our personal stories, often through the language of food but with many other creative techniques as well. We’ll examine the craft of writing, highlighting the tools needed to create engaging stories, including the essential components of using sensory details to inform and inspire.

This generative retreat will deepen our connection to our daily lives and our inner worlds, creating new relationships with ourselves and our personal growth. Through group and individual writing exercises, daily morning practices, and delicious meals together, we will tap into our creativity and illuminate deeper truths about ourselves and the world around us.

We will connect with the land and local community, and meet people from around the world, emerging from the retreat refreshed, renewed, and reinspired.

Who should join

All levels of experience are welcome, so long as you arrive with an open mind (and a curiosity for Italian food and culture)! There will be time to share our work and offer feedback as a group, as well as lots of time for your own generative work—using our writing as a means to explore all the ways we do and don’t nourish ourselves. Although we will often use the subject of food as a starting point, this retreat is open to all kinds of writers with all levels of experience.

Tertulia Coliving.jpg

The Location

The retreat will take place in the wild part of Tuscany, at Tertulia, a restored Italian farmhouse from the 1700s, nestled in the Mugello forest. Tertulia is rooted in permaculture principles, so along with writing we will also get to go foraging in the forest, visit local markets, take a cooking class together, and have an optional morning practice of yoga and meditation.
